In theswitchboard your voice, what you say into the mic gets echoed back through the speakers. We also experienced a similar effect in MSN Messeger webcam conversations.
it is something we are working on adding to the switchboard. this will give you the equivalent of a speaker phone. until then, if you want to get rid of the echo, use headphones.
Hi Malcolm
I have the same echo problem but it's occuring despite both of us using headphones.
Apart from the echo, am very impressed with the clarity.
If you are using a headphone and microphone this is indeed hard to understand. Basically echo will only occur if the mic is somehow picking up the sound coming out of your headphones. I have seen this happen with cheap headsets which don't actually place the mic at the end of the mic boom, but instead the mic is located near the headphone and the boom is merely a tube that runs from the mic to your mouth. I guess this is a much cheaper design, but since the mic is actually located near the headphone it picks up some of the headphone sound. If the switchboard had active software echo cancellation this wouldn't be a problem.
Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for the response. As haven't tried any other programmes that have required a microphone, couldn't honestly say I've had an issue with this before.
Have to admit, the headset is a cheap model (all of A$8), the Ovann OV921MV, that I bought purely for testing though the sound isn't bad if listening to voice. Have to admit, though, I wouldn't necessarily want to listen to music all day on them. It appears the microphone is at the end of the boom rather than near the headset but it may not be suitably isolated, hence the echo. I'll connect up a bluetooth headset or just go and buy a better microphone and try it with that.
Cheers

Sounds good. Let us know what the results are with the new headset. Could be that it is a software issue, which would be good to know.
Also, I would like to get echo cancellation into the switchboard at some point as this would also allow people to have the sound on their speakers (like a speaker phone), plus use cheap headsets :).
