OS/2 eCs and Java v. and your applet requirement now and in future

your requirements are doucmented as:

Minimum requirements

* Java 1.4 enabled web browser
* internet connection
* microphone and headphones

Browser recommendations

* Windows: IE, Mozilla
* Mac: Safari
* Linux/Unix: Mozilla
* upgrade to Java 1.5

On the OS/2 eCs Operating System are two different java 1.4.x implemenations:

1. java 1.4.1_07 from GCD a native OS/2 implementation

Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.1
Using JRE version 1.4.1_07 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = S:\java141\jre

2. java 1.4.2_05 from Innotek - a window/odin port to OS/2

We will be able to run you applet base on this java levels.

If you require a higher level of java for your applet, you will lose the OS/2 eCs Users/community.

The use of java 1.5 is not possible for near future.

To meet your browser requiements is no problem.

The firefox / Mozilla browsers are on there current level.

There is even a speech recongnition software VoiceType 3.5 as part of the OS/2 Warp 4 realease in 1995!

Hi Rainer,

Java 1.5 is only a recommendation not a requirement, so don't worry about OS/2 being left behind, because the Java requirement will remain at 1.4.
